Our Senior Project Team
Our senior project team consists of five mechanical engineering students at CSUS, all members of Hornet Racing Formula SAE. Our project will allow future generations of the team to test and validate data.
The Goal
Design & Manufacture a Dynamometer for FSAE Engine tuning & component validation
Eddy Brake
An eddy current brake was chosen for its precise, non-contact load control, allowing the engine to be held at specific RPM and torque points for steady-state tuning, while ensuring consistent, repeatable data collection with minimal maintenance.
Dyno Components
Welded Frame
The mild steel welded frame allows for project repeatability and modifications if the team decides to utilize a different engine in the future.
Eddy Brake
Rigidly mounted eddy brake is chain driven simulating real engine conditions.
Control System
Control system utilizes raspberry pi’s along with MATLAB & Simulink to dynamically control the dyno response.
