Fly Fishing Rod
Product to CAD
The Goal
Utilize SolidWorks to model my fly fishing rod and reel.
The Process
While 3D modeling my fly fishing rod and reel in SolidWorks, I focused on both functional accuracy and realistic detail. First, I gathered reference images and measurements to capture the rod’s taper and the reel’s key components. Then, I used parametric sketches and revolve features to shape the rod’s cylindrical geometry, ensuring the taper transitioned smoothly. For the reel, I created dimensioned extrusions for the frame and spool, carefully aligning the assembly to accommodate its rotating mechanisms. Finally, I added fillets and chamfers to model real-world contours and strengthen component edges, resulting in a fully articulated, detailed fly fishing setup
The Result
Throughout this project, I was pushed to expand my SolidWorks proficiency by exploring advanced modeling techniques and refining complex assemblies. At the same time, the precise measurements required for each component forced me to sharpen my accuracy and attention to detail, ultimately enhancing both my design capabilities and my overall engineering approach.
